The Team

 

The ESG Investment Management (ESG IM) team is a part of the Portfolio Strategy & Risk Group which provides guidance on Temasek’s strategic direction and portfolio objectives. ESG IM partners closely with teams across the Investment Group, the Sustainability Group as well as the broader company to advance ESG as a core engine across Temasek’s global investments and to drive sustainable outcomes that go hand in hand with financial returns. In addition to deepening and expanding ESG integration to both manage risks and drive value creation across the portfolio, the ESG IM team supports portfolio transition to meet Temasek’s climate and broader sustainability goals.       

 

Role Summary

 

The ESG Investment Management team is looking to bring on board an experienced ESG professional to drive our post-investment engagement for ESG value creation and risk mitigation with portfolio companies. As part of a global team, the candidate will work closely with the Head of ESG IM based in NY, Director of ESG IM based in Singapore and relevant teams in the Investment Group and Sustainability Group.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead ESG post-investment engagement with key portfolio companies for value creation and risk mitigation in partnership with teams from the Investment Group
  • Build scalable ESG value creation solutions and toolkits that provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to engaging portfolio companies on ESG topics to drive portfolio value uplift and resiliency
  • Manage and expand our knowledge network of ESG consultants, subject matter experts and partners to leverage external capabilities to deliver ESG value creation for portfolio companies
  • Lead the research and delivery of thematic reports and tools on cross-cutting ESG topics and megatrends impacting investment decisions, portfolio management and value creation
  • Partner with and support Head of ESG IM and Director of ESG IM in advancing and executing on broader strategic priorities
  • Prepare and deliver internal and external updates related to our ESG activities and broader ESG trends
  • Participate in other work such as cross-functional or institutional projects

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Public Policy, Sustainability, or related disciplines; Master’s degree or higher is preferred
  • At least eight years of work experience, majority of which is in ESG portfolio engagement or value creation, preferably in private equity, investment management or consulting. Experience in developing and implementing ESG initiatives in an operating company is a plus.
  • Robust understanding of ESG opportunities and risks, especially in critical sustainability themes (climate, social and nature) as they apply and shape long-term corporate strategies
  • Ability to produce high quality outputs in a timely manner leveraging on strong business acumen and strategic thinking
  • Strong relationship building skills and ability to navigate complexity, influence, build consensus, inspire and catalyse others to action
  • Team player with strong intercultural awareness, team orientation, adaptability, and ability to work across geographies and teams – including work hours that can extend across global time zones
  • Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated track record of initiating, driving, and executing across multiple initiatives 

 

Salary range - Base salary of US$130K – US$200K per annum (compensation structure includes various additional incentives payable in April, August and October annually)
