Introduction
Temasek’s Emerging Technologies team invests in deep tech ventures with potential to transform industries or create new markets. We leverage deep scientific and technological expertise, a broad global network across start-up & venture capital ecosystems and disciplined investment capabilities to invest in early-stage companies with clear techno economic advantages across the globe. We focus on two core areas: Compute, Cognition, and Embodied AI (CCE), and Materials and Energy Technologies (MET). In parallel, we also partner with global leading players help curate and build Deep Tech Platforms with potential for scale & long-term impact.
Responsibilities
You will join the team to support origination, research, diligence, and portfolio work on deep tech opportunities. The role suits someone with strong first principles thinking, high learning velocity, and a builder mindset. This is a full time, 8-12-month internship based in Singapore.
- Help run landscape and new opportunity scans across CCE and MET focus areas.
- Perform market and competitive analyses to map value chains, key players, and differentiation.
- Build simple technoeconomic models to test unit economics, cost curves, and scalability.
- Assist diligence workstreams including customer calls, expert interviews, data room checks, and reference calls.
- Join due diligence calls with experts, customers, and references. Capture notes and actions.
- Support technology assessments from first principles and translate benchmarks into commercial implications.
- Construct basic financial models to size markets, assess scenarios, and estimate capital needs.
- Draft concise memos and slides that communicate findings, risks, and a recommended investment decision.
Requirements
- Background: Business / Finance background with strong STEM fluency or STEM background with Business / Finance fluency
- Experience: Prior buyside internship in Investing (Venture Capital / Growth Equity / Private Equity) or Venture Building (Accelerator / Incubators / Technology/IP Commercialization Office) or Strategic Consulting. Exposure to growth stage companies preferred.
- Core skills: Understanding of venture dynamics: familiarity with concepts e.g., cap tables, valuation, fundraising stages, technical due diligence (e.g., TRL), business model evaluation (e.g., techno-economics), market sizing. Basic financial knowledge: an understanding of valuation multiples and the three financial statements is useful, though not required; a strong willingness to learn is essential.
- Evidence of learning agility: Candidates should demonstrate intellectual curiosity and openness to new domains, supported by prior experiences (whether through internships, student organizations, or projects) that show a willingness to explore different industries, functions, or technologies, including at least one exposure to business or finance.
- Working Style: High conscientiousness with strong attention to detail and reliable follow-through. Takes ownership, works reliably under ambiguity, and delivers with precision.
- Domain familiarity: Interest in AI compute, robotics, semiconductors, advanced materials, energy systems, or industrial decarbonization. Not required but helpful.
