In partnership with various teams across Temasek and our broader ecosystem, the Sustainability Group initiates, develops and implements strategies to build a climate-resilient, net zero portfolio and to enable nature positive and inclusive growth; catalyses new business opportunities and solutions that contribute to sustainable development; advances thought leadership and engagement on sustainability topics; and supports our growth as a sustainable organisation to create shared value aligned with our mandate of generating sustainable returns over the long term.
The Sustainability Group compromises the following sub-teams and partners with the investment group and functional teams to strengthen our sustainability capabilities and ecosystem.
- Sustainability Strategy: advance our strategy and policy towards net zero, nature positive and inclusive growth and drive institutional and community-related sustainability initiatives
- Sustainable Solutions: drive decarbonisation in portfolio companies and unlock new investment opportunities in Sustainable Living trends by identifying emerging thematics and catalysing innovative solutions
- ESG Investment Management: advance ESG integration across our investment process including portfolio engagement to help strengthen long-term portfolio resiliency and value creation
- Ecosperity: accelerate systems-change by harnessing our Ecosperity platform to drive year-round engagements, thought leadership, and advocacy
Responsibilities
The ESG Investment Management team is looking to bring on board an ESG professional to enhance the team’s capabilities. The candidate will support the evaluation of ESG issues for new investment opportunities and existing portfolio companies, and contribute to the broadening and deepening of Temasek’s ESG expertise.
- Support and guide the investment team on pre-investment ESG due diligence, especially for investments with material environmental or social issues
- Support ESG post-investment engagement with key portfolio companies for value creation and risk mitigation, in partnership with the Investment Group
- Conduct thematic research on cross-cutting ESG topics and megatrends impacting investment decisions, portfolio management and value creation
- Support the continued development of Temasek sustainability knowledge repository through delivery of ESG tools and guidelines, curation of ESG case studies and ESG learning sessions for the Investment Group and portfolio companies
- Expand Temasek's network of ESG consultants, subject matter experts and partners to leverage external capabilities for ESG pre-investment due diligence and post-investment value creation
- Assist various projects related to Temasek's Sustainability Roadmap, including our Climate narrative, target and plans
- Contribute to a broad range of institutional initiatives beyond the Sustainability Group
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Sustainability, Environmental Management or related disciplines
- At least four years of work experience in ESG integration or Sustainability implementation in private equity, investment management, management consulting or within an operating company
- Robust understanding of ESG opportunities and risks in business context, especially in critical sustainability themes (climate, social and nature) as they apply and shape long-term corporate strategies
- Ability to produce high quality outputs in a timely manner with attention to details and strategic thinking
- Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
- Team player with strong intercultural awareness, team orientation, adaptability, and ability to work across geographies and teams – including work hours that can extend across global time zones
- Strong work ethic with ownership mindset; demonstrated track record of initiating, driving, and executing across multiple initiatives
- Strong relationship building skills and ability to navigate complexity, influence, build consensus, inspire and catalyse others to action
Salary Range: Base salary of US$122K – US$170K per annum (compensation structure includes various additional incentives payable in April, August and October annually)
