Salary Range: Base salary of US$216K – US$480K per annum (compensation structure includes various additional incentives payable in April, August and October annually)

 

The Tax MD/Director will assist the Head of Tax with overseeing Temasek’s transaction tax matters globally with particular emphasis on M&A structuring including tax policy/tax governance (including participation at global tax forums and dialogues on matters impacting Temasek’s interests).

 

The incumbent is expected to oversee complex tax structuring transactions including acquisitions and disposals of investments, corporate re-structuring, transfer pricing, indirect taxes (GST, VAT, stamp duty, transaction taxes etc.), local country taxes, dealing with tax controversies and audits including negotiations with tax authorities. The Tax MD/Director will be responsible for working hand in hand with investment teams to develop structures and model the tax consequences of transactions.

 

The Tax MD/Director is expected to track regulatory developments in the global tax landscape including identifying, managing and averting potential tax risks including having in place strategies and frameworks to manage these risks. To be cognizant and forward thinking and have working knowledge of tax control and risks framework to address proposed changes in the global tax landscape. The candidate is also required to prepare submissions to OECD and/or other international tax bodies on fiscal measures affecting Temasek’s activities globally.

 

The Tax MD/Director will also assist with local tax compliance, audits and queries from tax authorities in collaboration with external service providers.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • To provide tax advice to various investment, corporate and institutional groups;
  • To assist to oversee the centralization, coordination and management of tax controversies and compliance including tax policies in the US and EU;
  • To assist Head of Tax with identifying, strategizing and managing tax risks including putting in place controls and frameworks to manage evolving risks;
  • Assist with the development and documentation of policies and procedures for the group including policies and procedures for investment transactions to ensure key tax controls are in place to maintain a strong internal control environment;
  • Assist the Head of Tax with the development, coaching and work direction of the tax team to enhance career development and opportunities.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Accounting and/or law degrees, CPA or similar country qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates with legal qualifications coupled with practicing experience;
  • At least 20 years of tax experience in the financial industry and/or major law firm or the Big Four accounting firms;
  • At least 10 years of international tax work experience including tax structuring;
  • In-depth knowledge of tax and regulatory compliance in the US and EU, overseas tax experience will be favourably considered;
  • High level of interpersonal, specifically communication and writing skills required;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders;
  • Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects including managing numerous cross functional teams;
  • Willingness and ability to pursue continuous learning of developing areas of tax laws including tax technology;
  • Experience in dealing with external service providers especially law firms and accounting firms at senior levels;
  • Pro-active and self-starter with ability to independently determine performance objectives;
  • Exhibits strong integrity, teamwork and trust attributes including management skills.
